Step 2
A) Assembly of the Jambs in the
Rough Opening

1)
Discard the plastic plugs attached to the jambs. You will use the wood plugs (F) supplied.

2) Stand in the rough opening and imagine which way you want your door to swing. Your Home Tech door may be set up to swing in or out; left or right by flipping the jamb legs before assembly. See diagrams 1, 2 and 3.

3) Double check hinge/strike plate orientation for proper door swing, then connect the top jamb to each vertical jamb leg using two 2” screws (D) per joint. Pre- drill pilot holes with a 3/32” drill bit to prevent splitting. See diagram 2.

4) Set the assembled frame in the rough opening.
5) Make sure the face of the hinge side of the jamb is set flush with the finished wall surface (see diagram 2 and 4).

6) Drill 13/64” pilot holes through the pre-drilled holes in the hinge side of the jamb into the rough framing. Install and set large shank screws through the jamb into the rough opening framing.

7) You can plumb the jamb by adjusting the screws. Plumb the hinge side jamb first. Level the header jamb, then plumb the opposite side. The gap between the jambs and the rough framing should be equal on both sides of the door.

8) For the door to operate properly, both side jambs must be plumb and the header jamb must be level.

9) Check to make sure both jamb legs touch the floor. If not, your floor may not be level. If the floor is not level, remove the jambs from the doorway and trim the bottom of one jamb leg, as appropriate.

10) If the width of the head jamb is greater than 50” put a wood screw (not supplied) through the center of the head jamb into the rough framing. After all the jambs are plumb and level, firmly install wedges next to each screw. Carefully cinch down the jamb screws to hold the wedges in place.

11) Double-check that all jambs are plumb and the top jamb is level.
