Step 3

B) Hanging the Door

1) On the door slab, slightly back out the screws to loosen the hinge plates. Pull the metal plate back gently with a flathead screwdriver.

2) The hinge tongues on the jamb will insert into the slots on the left or right of the plate. Pick up the door and slide the tongues into the slots.

3) Line up the plate dimple with the hole in the tongue. Carefully tighten the screws to secure.

4) On the door edge (please see drawing) the large latch bolt should be above the smaller deadbolt on the lockset. If it is not, unscrew and remove the locking plate, turn it upright and re-install.

5) On the lockset, the flat side of the latch bolt should face the opening side of the door. If it doesn’t, gently (so you don’t mar the surface) use a pair of pliers to pull out the latch bolt and turn it over. Hint: If you wear rubber gloves, you may be able to use your finger and thumb to pull out the latch bolt without the use of pliers. The latch bolt is spring loaded (see diagram 3).

6) Close the door.

7) You can adjust door height slightly by turning the hinge pin screws. Adjust the lower hinge to make sure the weight of the door is carried equally on both hinges. When finished, lightly tighten the upper hinge screws.
